Local Tavernas

Takis Beach Restaurant is fabulous right on the beach with sweeping views over the bay to the mountains beyond. It is situated on the road to Akamas from Latchi and you could miss it so look out for a sign on the right hand side. It may look unassuming but it is really authentic and very popular with Cypriots for Sunday lunch in the summer. They do fresh fish meze and lots of local specialities. It is informal with many people swimming or sunbathing on the pretty beach then coming in for lunch.

The nearest taverna to the villa is Liza’s Place a 2 minute drive away. This is run by Liza who is Cypriot and she is often helped by her father Efklides. You will receive a warm welcome here with many Cypriot specialites at reasonable prices. Local wine is cheap and delicious. This taverna is frequented by locals and has a real Greek atmosphere. One of my favourite places.

Dimitris’ taverna is just a little further along the same (Pomos) road from Lisa’s Place. Dimitri and his wife run the taverna which by day has tables set in a shaded area on the beach as well as in the restaurant. Fresh fish is a speciality as are other Cyprus dishes. You can spend time on the beach here by day and saunter in for a coffee or cold drink at the beach side bar. By night it is lively and welcoming. This is 5 minutes drive from the villa and another favourite place.

Polis has many attractive restaurants and tavernas. These tend to be a bit more expensive due to the location. Many are situated in the old square where the atmosphere is very pleasant and lively during warm summer evenings. Finikas in the square is a very attractive one but there are many more that you can choose from.

The Halfway House is situated on the road from Polis to Argaka and is open by day for breakfasts, coffee and snacks, beer and lunches. This is an outdoor taverna with tables set out under a massive canopy of grapevines for shading. Jack and Gladys run this with their son Vassos. They have all spent many years in England but have now returned home to Cyprus. They have a charcoal grill going in the summer for fresh kebabs that are delicious served in warm pitta bread with salad. There are views of the hills at the back and the gardens are filled with Glady’s many aromatic herbs and flowering plants. Many ex-pats pop in here and there is always a friendly welcome.

Flyagain Irish pub and grill is just 5 minutes down the hill from Villa Rosa. It is located on one of the best beachfront locations on the outskirts of Argaka, providing spectacular beach views. Run by owner Yiannis, who knows how to keep everyone happy, many locals frequently drop in. Flyagain has a cosmopolitan atmosphere, making it an ideal place to have lunch on the spacious wooden terrace overlooking the sea, or relax at the end of the day while you soak in the impressive views of the sunset over Chrysochous Bay. Open all day, Flyagain offers a full range, from generous breakfasts to late night suppers. Pop in for a coffee and snack, or stay for lunch or dinner. Flyagain's kitchen turns out good food for everybody with everything from tasty pub food to great steaks, pasta, pizzas, seafood and traditional Cypriot Food. They also offer a takeaway service.
