Welcome to Paphos
Pafos is one of the most beautiful and ancient
towns of Cyprus. Wherever one treads in Pafos he comes across its
glorious history which dates back thousands of years, when the
cult of goddess Aphrodite who emerged from its seas, flourished
in this beautiful part of the world attracting many visitors from
the inland and abroad. Today it is a small harbour town, but in
Hellenistic and Roman times it was the Capital of Cyprus.Still
under the spell of her Beauty-Goddess, the area retaining her magic,
has remained impact by time. It seduces its visitor with its majestic
landscape, lovely coastline, historical treasures and delightful
villages where tradition is still a way of life.

Museum of the Holy Monastery of Kykkos
The Museum of the Holy Monastery of Kykkos has
followed all the formal specifications of modern museums but it
is substantially different from them. It is not a museum that is
completely separate from the functional space of the items it exhibits
and neither is it a museum that contains exhibits only on the strength
of their artistic value as are the museums of ancient Greek art.
It is a museum situated inside the monastery itself and like its
treasury it forms an integral part of it. Its exhibits such as
icons, holy objects, woodcarvings, vestments, embroideries, manuscripts
etc, are exhibited as part of the living adoration and the history
of the monastery.

UNESCO World Heritage - Paphos
Paphos has been inhabited since the Neolithic
period. It was a centre of the cult of Aphrodite and of pre-Hellenic
fertility deities. Aphrodite's legendary birthplace was on this
island, where her temple was erected by the Myceneans in the 12th
century B.C. The remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses
and tombs mean that the site is of exceptional architectural and
historic value. The mosaics of Nea Paphos are among the most beautiful
in the world.
