About Polis

Polis Chrysochous (to give the town its full name) is one of my favourite places. It has all the charm of old Cyprus and it remains unspoilt. The town is clean and pleasant with all amenities. Good local supermarkets and plenty of shops. There are cafes and tavernas and a very imposing church.
There is a pretty pebble beach set amongst eucalyptus trees and approached through citrus groves; what it lacks in sand is made up for by the beauty of the bay and the scenery of distant Akamas and the mountains of Paphos forest behind. Local snack bars and tavernas provide for a relaxing day at the beach.
There are, however small sandy coves nearby for those wanting to swim and sunbathe on golden sand. The buildings in Polis are attractive both old and modern. From here one can travel along the coast road to Pomos or the other way through Latchi with its famed fish tavernas and newly expanded marina and along the very pretty coast to the Akamas peninsula.

There are many excellent restaurants along this road. There are secluded sandy beaches too. Polis can be reached from Paphos by two routes the coastal or inland roads, both are very pleasant. It takes about 45 – 50 minutes, the coastal road has spectacular views and is a good road with all steep bits guarded (I’m freaked by steep mountain roads that are narrow and unguarded so trust me this one is fine)!
