Paphos is situated in the west
coast and is one of the most ancient towns in Cyprus and was
the ancient capital. A beautiful town with a great history
it has much to offer. Everywhere one sees reminders that the
legendary goddess Aphrodite was born of foam near here.
Now a modern, lively resort town
the area of Kato Paphos has plenty of shops and lively restaurants
and a harbour by the old castle and many hotels. Watersports
are available at many of the beaches. There are ancient mosaics
and ruins to visit. The town has plenty of greenery with palm
trees and pink and white oleanders growing everywhere. The
old town, or Pano Paphos has winding streets and many cafes
and a market with plenty to see and do.
The area around Paphos is very
scenic and there are two roads leading to the town of Polis
on the lovely bay of Polis Chrysochous on the north west coast.
The sunsets in this area are spectacular.
The forest of Paphos is nearby and the mountains are very striking
as is the Nature reserve of Akamas.
